New Year's Eve in Wiesbaden - A classy affair

I was going to forgo writing a post about our New Year's Eve celebration, since this is about 6 weeks past New Year's at this point, but I never want to forget our first time ringing in the New Year in another country!  I also want all of you out there to know about this for next year.

We got all dressed up and went to the landmark of Wiesbaden, the Kurhaus casino.  This casino is one of the nicest ones in Europe.  People come from all over to try their luck at a hand here.  Even Vladimir Putin has been seen here rolling the dice.  We've never been inside because there is a strict dress code for this casino, and I don't think they would care too much for our flip flops and shorts when we're strolling by on the weekends. We're not talking like your average casino in the states found on an Indian reserve or in Vegas.  This is a classy affair to say the least.

If you live in Wiesbaden this is a must do for NYE.  Get more info on the Wiesbaden Tourism page, here.
Here are my reasons why this is an experience you don't want to miss:
  1. It's a reason to put on your fancy pants!  Hehe, no worries we saw everything from cocktail dresses to long dresses, and real furs to faux furs at the casino.  It's whatever you fancy for this night! But the men should wear a suit and probably a tie (sorry guys not much leeway for you).
  2. It cost us only 75 Euro per ticket.  This includes a voucher for about 2 drinks.  Make sure to pre-game somewhere because as you can imagine the drinks are pricey.
  3. You get a free pass into the casino to gamble (Usually they charge a 3 Euro fee to just look inside).
  4. The fireworks were out of this world!  You get a front row seat viewing of the longest firework show of your life!  I'll never forget staring through those large pillars up at the sky!
  5. A live band to dance the night away.  I don't think the party stops until 4AM!

Happy New Year!

Here's a video of the incredibly close fireworks!  The song was perfect, right?
